Mum in law with a balance!

Day 40… #100daysofhappiness #100happydays

Have you ever struggled to write especially knowing that you are writing about your mother-in-law? So what needs to be said should be drafted with care yet with honesty and with all our heart. So does that mean will I be mincing words and false playing? Absolutely not, cause one thing I maintain in principle, that anytime I write only ‘truth be told’!

So here goes…

The world has seen her experience life from being KT Meena to Meena Appaiah. This convent girl, has been a loving daughter to wonderful parents, whom she fondly remembers even today. She has always been an obliging and dependable sister and aunt. She married young, but being in wedlock with her college sweetheart, made the journey memorable. Balancing a family and keeping bonds together is a herculean task, but her simplicity and thoughtfulness has given new meanings to these relationships as a daughter-in law, sister- in law or as an aunt.

Today, she is a loving, honest and dependable wife, whose concern is in her eyes. She is the rock of this family and carefully balances the nuances of being a wife and mother of two wonderful sons, who are both enduring in nature yet world apart on so many counts. She balances these differences and understands that we need to tread life with patience and acceptance. As a mother in law, her affection, willingness to accept shortfalls and change, makes our relationship invaluable. She leans towards the spiritual world, but exercises no pressure on anyone else. She is quick to appreciate even the smallest gestures. She has understood the world in my eyes and has embraced it with open arms. As a grandmother, her tireless ability to share the wonderful world of mythological story telling or be able to play just about anything with two tots is such a gift. She understands the importance of boundaries and is willing to see ‘our fast changing life’ without any judgments.

If you meet her, you would hardly believe that she is a grandmother. She is calm, gentle and only sees the good in people. She is ready to help and never differentiates. Her zest for staying healthy with a blend of food and yoga makes her quick sprints with the grand kids believable. Elegantly clad in a sari or salwar, she is rooted with tradition and shares about it with utmost faith, but will not create discomfort or unnecessary insistence. She eagerly awaits her stints of service with Sai Baba. Her love for books and gardening is cherishable. She creates magic with the dessert jellies in flavors that are often unheard of. She creates wines and Irish Cream that continues to be praised around.

While I have written in all honesty, her positive traits are magnificent. She has spent years selflessly pursuing her duties, that, it is perhaps time that she engaged life with the passion she imagined it to be. So now is the time to drive confidently, value your own opinion as well and live by your own life philosophies while blending those around you. I say this with the hope that she pursues her love for travel, gain new experiences and most of all steer the wheel of a 4 wheeler car like no one is around.

I have so much to learn from her and do hope we can make her life as fulfilling as she has made it for us. So here’s wishing a darling wife/ mummy/ mavi/ thai / friend the very best on her birthday!

For Mavi
Everyday we rise and shine to see our day go by,
Something new, something true,
Learning things we never knew.
As a wife, as a mother, I see you,
With a smile, being true.
Your patience and love has been much above
with the purity of a dove.

You are my Mavi, I received the day I wed your son,
And I just want to thank you Mavi, for the things you have done.
You have given me a gracious man, with whom I share a life,
You are his lovely mother and I am his lucky wife.
You used to pat his little head, and now I hold his hand
you raised in love a little boy, then gave me a man
!

For Meena (From Nimmi)
Friends from school, friends for life,
Thrilled my daughter is your son s wife.
A small world but so much joy,
Couldn't ask for more from your boy.
We make our memories and together we come,
Always for our family hum.
So here are my wishes to you I write,
May your life be cheerful and bright,
From one grandma to another I cheer,
But more to my friend, from here!

For Mummy (From Arya & Aditya)

You held our family together as one,
You showed us love, safety, discipline and fun.
You give us strength and hear us fight,
You show us patience and clear sight.
You give us courage to take that risk,
To explore life and stay brisk.
Thank you mummy, we seldom say,
But we love you, in a mighty way,
We would always want to see you proud,
Of our actions alone or in a crowd.
You held our hands tight and showed the way,
Now we move ahead without forgetting to pray.

For Thai (From Tamara & Tanaaya)

Our dear Thai, we love you,
We are little, but it's all too true,
Special stories, songs and fun,
It's our happy time with you in the sun.
The flying horse and little idli yum,
we rejoice and fill our tum!
