Diwali charm
Day 34 #100daysofhappiness #100happydays ...the sounds of crackers, new ethnic
clothes, the sweets, house hopping with friends is what we grew up experiencing
about Diwali. Today as the chaos peaks I find the experience clouding making me
wonder about what the next generation will actually soak in through such
festivities... but like everything else it will always be a mixed bag... just
like life and its surprises.
Diwali
-the festival of lights... we dont have any formal
rituals to celebrate this festival but the pulse, brightness and cheer just
lures us into forming a celebration.
So for us today as we
pledge to make our diwali truly about the festival of lights and forego the
thrill in those noisy and deeply polluting crackers we find ourselves at a
crossroad of choices. On one side I am attempting to show my kids that the
sheer joy of the festival is in its deep rooted meaning, the brightness of the flame
and the sweetness that the family shares. On the other hand I am trying to find
adequate explaination for the thick smoke that has clouded the sky, the loud
sounds that alarm my almost sleeping kids or the terrified helpless pets that
are looking for new corners to hide. The alarming advertisement s in the papers
and television showcasing festival deals and promotions have made useful and
relevant news and information disappear... echoing sentiments of materialism.
Amongst
other things I can complain but the joy we discover in our little celebrations
makes India
and its culture so fascinating. We found thrill in lighting the lamps, a fun
DIY activity for decorative lights with the kids, yummy sweets, the lazy
schedule of holidays, and the spirit of festivity that is in the air.
Today on
this auspicious day I fold my hands and welcome Goddess Lakshmi to bless and
guide us towards optimism even on the gloomiest days. Its a time for new
beginnings, learnings and more memories. Its a time for silent prayers,
meaningful conversations and hopeful laughter. Its the time to focus on useful
mutual coexistance and creating a better tomorrow for the generations to come.
So here's a
loving wish on my happy day from our family to yours for a blessed, cheerful,
safe and memorable Diwali
